Fuck Beige, purple is the colour of the season

I think we all know my distain for autumn and winter. Well, maybe autumn is ok but winter is an absolute no go for me. There’s a multitude of reasons. Cold weather, constant rain, forgetting what the sun looks like and having to leave your house with 1931037103 of layers just to feel some semblance of warmth. I often have people say, “But Jess, fluffy socks and warm drinks”. I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to be given something more substantial than that for the colder months to out-weigh my love for summer - nothing beats summer for me.

Not only that, once September 1st rolls round the high street gets dull. This year it’s one big sea of beige - apparently the colour of the season, not for me lads. The only beige I want is the kind you find on your plate, you feel me?

Like, if beige is your thing, aces. You’re in for a treat this season but seriously, does EVERYTHING need to be beige? I walked into Primark the other week and I shit you not I was surrounded by a sea of beige, everywhere I looked that’s all I could see. Not even autumn’s usually fave mustard was about. Obviously, I swiftly left.

Never fear though, if you’re like me and not a fan of the old beige thing, there seems to be a new colour for autumn on the block: hues of lavender. It was a fave for me in spring in the form of lilac so I’m thrilled it seems to have carried forward in to AW too. Pieces are far and few between but if you do some digging amongst the sea of beige you can find some colourful gems of your own.

I remember last AW being really good for colour, there were neon delights everywhere, the high street really bought into the whole colour thing for AW but this year we seem to have been ricocheted into another boring and muted season, I’m so uninspired atm. Zara is surprisingly one of the places you can go to get some colourful bits for autumn. After being in beige Primark I headed over there to see what they had. I was delighted to see not just the token mustard colour but deep purples, lavender and oranges. One thing I really loved was this high neck velvet top that I brought home with me - perfect for when it gets a little more festive too! For it’s first outing I wanted to try my hand at a more ~tonal~ look and teamed it with my SugarThrillz anime skirt. There are legit some panels where the ice cream looks like a penis and I had a mini heart attack when I thought, that’s in fact what it was. RUDE.

I’m not a believer in thinking as soon as a new season rolls around we NEED a completely new wardrobe. I understand needing to pick up some bits to replace stuff that’s a little bit worse for wear. In my case I need bottom half stuff. I currently have 2 pairs of trousers to see me through AW and I’m desperately scouring though Depop and eBay to find something I like. So far it’s not looking so good - slim pickings and stupid prices. It also doesn’t help that I just don’t seem to know what I want anymore. Hashtag first world.

Anyway, here’s to a super colourful AW wardrobe and not a single article of beige clothing insight!
