AD | Live @Leeds 2019 with Dr. Martens

I am very much a pop punk girl at heart, I have been for more than half my life and it's not often I stray from that path and dabble in other music. I’m not against it, I’m just a creature of habit. This weekend was one of those times I strayed from the pop punk path and had a bloody good time at my very first Live at Leeds.

Not only did I go to Live at Leeds, I was able to go with one of my fave brands ever Dr. Martens and got to pick out a pair of boots too - completely wild! I can’t wait to show you which ones I got. I’d only heard of a few bands but was fully ready to discover some new music in my city with some really good pals.  The day very much consisted of:

  • Laughing from start to finish
  • making new friends
  • fully enjoying the different venues in Leeds
  • finding my next fave band
  • Finally seeing Half Noise [Zac Farrow from Paramore’s band!!]
  • wondering why I didn’t start listening to Tallsaint sooner

We started the day heading off to the Dr. Martens second stage at the Brudenell Community room to watch HalfNoise. Before they started, we got to catch the last of Tallsaint who were bloody AMAZING and I can foresee myself listening to them non-stop for the foreseeable future. After that we headlined over to the community room to catch HalfNoise. It was so good to actually see the bands set at their own show rather than a few bits at a Pmore show. I loved Zac’s stage presence, the double drum set and how tight they all sounded - such a funky and fun sounding band and a great way to start the day.

We headed back to the centre of town where we found the DM’s boot room stage and met up with Sophie and Julia before heading off to grab some Vegan snacks and finding more music to watch. Luisa is a seasoned music lover so I was very much going off her recommendations, we also managed to see:

  • Saltwater sun
  • Fatherson - the venue was bloody beautiful. I remember just stood on the steps looking around and thinking it was the perfect place to watch a band
  • Black Honey [one I was very excited to see for the first time]
  • Jamie Lenman
  • Sundara Karma
After we got our fill of bands we made our way to the wardrobe to spend some time at the after party before calling it a day and grabbing some pizza at the Belgrave. I’m only just recovering from being on my feet all day but it was totally worth it.

Thanks so much Live at Leeds and Dr. Martens for having me and for kicking festival season off in such an epic way.
