Pushing for Personal Style with Your Shores

If you're a long time reader of Iamfoxxtailz, you will know I'm a huge advocate of finding and embracing your own personal style. On the frequent, I encourage people to find theirs. Personal style for me is finding a voice using fashion and I believe the outfit choices you make and the way you choose to have your hair can be an extension of your personality should you choose to express it in such a way.

However, with that said, I feel there can be a few negatives when a person decides to express themselves and be completely and utterly unapologetically 100% them and believe me I have had a  fair share of my own.  I understand that something a little different or out there will prompt a response and even a little a bit of fun poked at, perhaps a partially loud dress you're wearing or the colour you have chosen to dye your hair. Most of the time 99% of comments I get are lovely, it's just a few people that think it's fine to put you down and squash your spark. Usually, I take most of these comments in my stride, but when does a bit of fun turn into something nasty?

Let me give you a few examples of comments that have been made to me in the past:

In regards to my septum piercing:

''Although it's not something for me, I really like your new piercing, it's a little bit different isn't it?''

A perfectly reasonable response to something I've had done.

'' Your nose is disgusting, do you aspire to be a bull or something lol.''

The totally original and "I've never ever heard that" response to something I had done was said to me by a stranger very very loudly on a night out in front of a room full of people. Nice. Not cool and not ok at all. I respect that, you know, not everything you do will be to someone's taste or their cup of tea, which is perfectly fine but if you're gonna be rude about it, keep it to yourself yeah?

Let me try you out with another example, this time on my hair:

'' I really wish I dared be so adventurous with my hair! I don't think I'd be able to pull it off'''

This is fine, perhaps even:

''Bloody hell, I can spot you and your hair a mile off haha.''

The above a little more poke fun at but you know that's fine, what's not fine is this:

''You'd be a lot fitter if your hair wasn't such stupid colours.''

Firstly lol. Secondly, I didn't dye my hair in the hopes to be deemed attractive to that particular person, or anyone for that matter. I choose to dye my hair the colours I do because I like it, it makes me happy.

Now, we all know it's not acceptable to point out to someone if you're not a fan of their new dye job or a particular thing that may be wearing, so why are the rules different when someone decides to style themselves a little differently? Pointing out to someone and expressing a dislike for something that's not to your taste or even more so to mock it is rude both sides, so why is it unacceptable to not make those remarks for someone for wanting to do something a little different? Food for thought and something I've been pondering for a while.

I'd like to know if you've ever had any remarks made to you that weren't ok and how you handled them? It's time it was stopped thinking these remarks to make to people are the norm.

  1. Totally agree girl! When I had my nostril and lip pierced I had people come up to me on night's out and tell me I'd be a lot fitter without 'all the metal in my face'. I got bullied at school so much for the way I dressed because it didn't fit in with their idea of normal - I think that's now why I like to basically stick two fingers up to all of them and just do and wear exactly what I want without a care in the world! 2. Omg I can't believe you received those nasty comments girl! We can't please everyone sadly, but that's also fine because why should we live to please? We should always do whatever we feel fits well with ourselves! And your hair speaks a lot about your personality, saying that they're of "stupid colours" is absolute bonkers (bet that person barely has any sense of style, ha).

  3. I liked your trend ,style and fashion.I enjoyed with your post.Very thanks for sharing.
