Weekly Round Up #7: Amsterdam Photo Diary

Alternative Fashion Blogger Foxxtailz
I kinda didn't know what to do with this post, purely cos Sundays are weekly round up days and I skipped last weeks due to a horrific bout of anxiety that left me so drained I went to bed and fell asleep at  7.10pm - best nights sleep ever after such a horrible day. But also I wanted to do a dedicated post of what James and I got up to in Amsterdam this week. It seemed kinda silly to do both, so have a hybrid, my “weekly round up where the only interesting thing I did this week was going to Amsterdam so you're getting this instead”. Enjoy ;)

This week was pretty rad and a pretty wicked way to start the year. I got invited to my first ever PR press trip overseas and couldn’t quite believe it - a full on pinch me moment in my blogging career. The invite included travel to Amsterdam and an over night stay provided for by Toms for the #Standfortomorrow event. As I’d been dying to go back to Amsterdam, James and I decided to book an extra day in Amsterdam so we could do some exploring together after the event.

Day one

The night before we travelled, we got the train to London and spent the night at Kitty’s house as the Eurostar was at 8.16am - thank the lord for generous friends that live in London! We arrived in Amsterdam around 1.30pm local time in Amsterdam and headed out to find the tram to take us to the hotel. Now, for the most part I was too busy filming every damn thing and forgot to take pictures of a bunch of stuff, the hotel and the event included. We arrived at the most bizarre but rad hotel complete with a little welcome package of Tony’s chocolate [legit hooked on that stuff] and after dumping our bags we went in search of one of the Vegan Junk Food Bars in the city. I was so pumped to try this place out after hearing such good stuff about it.
VJFB is pretty well priced however they don’t take cash [nor do a lot of places in Amsterdam it seems]. The inside was rad with a bunch of colours and graffiti on the walls. I went for a “chicken” burger and James got a classic burger and we had a side of fries to share. IT.WAS.INSANE if you’re in the city, I would highly recommend going - Vegan or not.
We headed back to the hotel to have a chill before meeting the guys and heading out to the event for the evening.
Again cos I’m a pleb and was too busy enjoying the evening and filming I forgot to taken pictures of the evening. The event space was so freaking cool, they had a bunch of vegan food and drinks on offer as well as interactive work shops to find out about all the good things Toms have been doing since they started in 2007. There was also inspiring talks from the guys that worked at Toms too. A very wonderful and thought provoking evening.
Toms so far has:
  • Donated over 84 million pairs of shoes to children in need
  • Provided 600,000 weeks of clean water
  • Restored the sight of more than 600,000 people

Day 2

Day 2 was ours to enjoy and do with what we wished, we were super sad to be checking out of our hotel, but we had to get up early to check in to our next one for our last night in Amsterdam. It was super grim and super far out of the city. -849024/10 would recommend. After finally giving up on trying to find our way there, we just got ourselves an uber after then discovering there was a metro station literally right next door to the hotel . . . .
We didn’t really have a set plan for the day, we just wanted to grab some food and just enjoy wandering around the city. We stopped off at a pizza place that I can’t remember for the life of me what it was called [excellent work Jess] [it was called De Pizza Bakkers ;) - James] and then headed off to the Holocaust national museum. When we got there, we realised that the museum was a little bit out of our budget for the trip and left. We headed into the ~main part~ I guess of Amsterdam and found a bunch of great vegan places. It was surpsirng to see how good the vegan scene in the city was. We found a wicked vegan clothing store where James and I picked up matching patches for our jackets and then spotted a candy store that had vegan and vegetarian sweets. After walking 901938109379013 steps [ok 17K] we headed back to our super grim box masquerading as a hotel room in search of food. We ended up just taking back a maccies to the hotel room as we couldn’t find a damn thing - how cultured of us lol

Day 3

Our last day in Amsterdam both James and I woke up feeling really really ill. Our grim hotel had a checkout time of 10am [legit WTF?] so we had another early start to the day. I had spied on our first day near the hotel a place called “The breakfast club” and wanted to check it out for some breakfast. The place was gorgeous inside and the food even more so. It was kinda on the pricy side - my stack of pancakes cost me €12 but holy heck were they good. I also fancied a cup of tea with them but as I’m an absolute tea n0ob it came in this weird strainer thing and in a glass?! I was properly confused. James had a cheese toastie that I had a sneaky bite of and can confirm it was realllly good. Our Eurostar was at 2.30pm and as James was starting to get worse and worse as the day went on we headed off to Anne Frank's house [we didn’t manage to book tickets before hand as they had all sold out] and found a quiet place to get a drink and chill before getting the train. The day was bloody glorious with proper blue skies and everything which made the city even more beautiful. We had a final wander before heading to Amsterdam central station to catch our train home.

A whirlwind but excellent few days in Amsterdam, I may currently feel like a broken woman now but it was so totally worth it. Special shout out to Toms and Canoe for the invite and for a trip I’ll never forget.

P.s weekly round ups will resume as norm next week lads
