BooHoo X DOTM Challenge

BooHoo dress of the month Velvet Dress

Fashion challenges are my jam. I love finding new ways in which to wear something, perhaps an unconventional way to style something. Ignoring what the fashion gurus say and breaking all da ~ fashion rules ~ whilst simultaneously making your own. My biggest fashion mantra, I can't recall where I first saw it, is ''If you like it, wear it''. I apply this to all the outfits I put together, as doing my own fashion thang makes me damn happy.

I was thrilled when Boohoo contacted me and asked me to be apart of their Dress of the month campaign. The idea behind the campaign was to see how a selected bunch of bloggers would style the same dress. The only thing I was asked was if I wanted it in Blue or Red. They wanted to see how the dress would be styled and adapted to different body types, personality styles, or may not have been picked given the choice as they may not feel they could ''pull'' it off. It's all about ignoring the rules and breaking away from fashion comfort zones and embracing trends you may not have thought were ''you''. Something I can totally get behind. I like to smash the stigmas that can sometimes surround fashion trends.

The next day I received a dark blue crushed velvet dress from Boohoos ''night'' range complete with a lil cheeky leg split. I decided to go the polar opposite of what I guess the dress was intended for and styled it for a casual day look. In winter I'm all about the layers. All. Of. Them. Breaking fashion commandment '' Thou shall not wear blue and black together '', [one I've personally never really understood?] I picked out everyone's favourite wardrobe staple, the monochrome striped long sleeve and loved loved loved the end product of the layering up, impressed also by the versatility of the dress. To finish off the look I cinched in my boy waist with a belt and wore my new chunky River Island boots that I basically haven't taken off since they arrived a few weeks ago, to contrast and compliment the daintiness of the velvet dress giving it that urban grunge feel that I'm all about.
