Embracing Your Personal Style - Why Is It So Important?

Alternative Blogger Misguided Pink Fur Parka

Personal style. I have seen this term floating around the bloggersphere at the moment and basically, I wanted to weigh in with my opinion on this topic as it does hold a lot of importance to me. I would say I have found my personal style albeit I still leave room for it to grow as it can not ever be absolute for me,  I have been embracing it for the past 5/6 years. Something I would have shied away from when I was in my teens.

Let me rewind you to my years at high school. I was a weird kid. I was picked on. What I did, what I chose to like mercifully ripped apart whilst simultaneously, I was made to feel stupid for liking the things I did. It was horrendous, I was miserable. I hated school and I wanted it to be over. I would do anything and everything to stay in the background, to blend in. I would never wear anything too bright, religiously sticking to dull colours and even duller outfits. Heck, I thought having highlights in my hair was fucking extreme. I just didn't want any sort of attention for the choices I made in what I was wearing as I associated that with the cruel comments my high school peers made.

The 6-week break between finishing high school and going to college was a really low and lonely point for me. It's the first time I remember ever feeling like that. Which then lead me to absolutely dread starting my first term of college, I thought I would be going through everything I did in high school again for the next two years.

How wrong I was.

I met people that liked the things I did, that embraced my weird as much as I embraced theirs. 10+ years on and they are still my closest friends.  I started to relax. I started to discover what I liked when it came to fashion, for the first time I started embracing my style and letting go of the things I thought I should have liked, exchanging it for the things I did actually like. I started to have fun with fashion, after all, it is just another way in which we can express ourselves, it's an incredibly satisfying creative outlet, one I enjoy very very much as I am a creative being right down to my very bones, I wouldn't want it any other way.  When I started learning it was ok to do things my way, my God did it feel good no longer feeling like I should stay in the background.

I wear my bright hair with pride, I love my stupid short fringe no matter how much I get heckled and teased for it. I like the ring in my nose and feel bare without it. I love styling outfits to appear interesting and to my taste. Clashing is the best, I like looking like I've rolled around my wardrobe. Bright is best. I still obviously follow trends but they are always unapologetically the way I want to wear them. For example, I like that I have finally found a winter coat that looks like it was made with me in mind. I don't care if the khaki/bright coloured fur has been deemed tacky and perhaps even this season's ''fashion nightmare''- cool beans pal, perhaps I like to be a little bit tacky and nightmarish in my fashion choices. I'm sorry they're not to your style, and you know what? That's absolutely fine.  Not everything needs to be to everyone's style. You are, of course, allowed to not like things but yano, don't go hating on people for it. I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're allowed to express a dislike for something but let's not make it personal.

I C U Jacket Of Dreams

Iron Fist I see you fur jacket
Now, as a blogger, I've been able to experience some incredible things and have been given some pinch me this isn't happening opportunities, each and everyone I am so so grateful for. So When Iron Fist reached out to me after paying them a visit at the Trade show LondonEdge back in September, a lot of excited emotions and giddy-ness flooded over me. I obviously emailed back heck YEAH and was sent the winter catalogue to have a look through.

It was a no brainer I picked out this eye catching multicoloured faux fur coat of dreams, which I had been eyeing up at the show in September [see what I did there ;)] and the giddy-ness soon returned when it turned up on my doorstep just in time for my trip to Manchester. Iron Fist was and still very much is a brand myself and my friends obsessed over, especially in the depths of my Emo phase. I'd be dripping in the brand along with Lowlife, Atticus and a Famous belt buckle [lol remember those?] to finish the Emo-chic ensemble off.

As this jacket is very much a statement piece, I thought the rest of my outfit should contrast to that. In the festive period, I become a sucker for anything metallic/glitter/sequin/velvety, I love them all so damn much. This gunmetal skirt definitely caters to my love for all things metallic side and as it was a darker metallic, I thought it contrasted to the brightness well. Which then finally brings me to the boots. I've wanted a pair of over the knee boots for a while, and when I saw fellow blogger Robyn in a pair on Instagram looking phenomenal, I was sold. I did pick a pair the same as these last year but returned them as I was unsure about them. They are the warmest damn things ever, however, the first outing they gave me all of the blisters, we're not talking at the moment.

As this collab holds a nostalgic place in my heart, I wanted to do something a little bit more different/special and for a good while, I wanted to try my hand at creating my very first lookbook. I thought this would be the perfect time to give it ago. Over the weekend I enlisted the help of my very lovely boyfriend James, who agreed to help me wander around Manchester until we found the perfect location and shoot the footage.

Dressing for the Chill is not my Forte

Ark Tartan Trousers Topshop BodySuit Alternative Fashion

Oh my, where has this week gone? It's slipped right by me without me posting a single thing for a whole week. Something I have avoided since my early days of blogging. It's not that I haven't wanted to, I guess life got in the way, I've spent the past few days creating exciting content for my blog and YouTube channel I just merely forgot to check in and post on my blog. Which is funny as I'm starting to really fall in love with blogging again. I always feel like this after a trip to Manchester, my creative batteries fully charged and ready to go.

Speaking of creative, this outfit for the winter elements that have come up in full force is not. I tend to struggle to find and interesting yet practical outfit for the winter months to blog about, 98% of the time it's just me wrapped up in as many big jumpers and layers I can find which hardly screams bloggable outfit. It was a particular boring Sunday and I was going trough my wardrobe when I spotted this TopShop bodysuit which I have practically worn to death through the summer but never actually got around to wearing it for my blog. Shame as I really do love the teeny spaghetti straps [is that what we call them here?!] and the cut of the back. I decided to wear it one last time before retiring it until summer next year as it really isn't suitable now the weather's got so cold I keep wondering if I will lose a toe to frostbite on my morning commute to work. All about the dramatics me.

In my defence, this outfit is slightly fitting for the season no? I mean just take a look at my tartan pants, they have all the Santa vibes, I basically look like I rifled through Santa's wardrobe and nicked off with them. Very festive, very fitting. AND I can eat all the Christmas confectionery in the world and these bad boys would hide my multitude of festive feasting sins. Someone pass me a mince pie stat.

Also, apologies for the bleached out photos, my paler than pale skin has broken my camera and I don't know how to fix it. . . .

How are you dressing for the winter? Are you still managing to keep your outfits practical yet interesting? I'd love to know in the comments below! [oop poet]

Snake Eyes

Tarc-Clothing Alternative Style Blogger

You know when you get sent a shirt to do a lil collab with and you can’t take it off? Yeh, that.
Even better when it fits into the recent dabbling more and more into the realms of dressing all witchy and dark and not your usual all bright errythang with the clashing patterns. Well perhaps still some clashing, this is me after all.

But look, they’ve only gone and done it again haven’t they? Tarc-Clothing  I mean.
They’re like the wizards of graphic tees, nailing it time after time with their designs. Kudos to you. Looking through the shirts it was an absolute no-brainer choosing the blinded tee being a huge Harry Potter fan it had all the Slytherin vibes [represent] and basically, I had to have it. For the beady eyes amongst my readers, you will have noticed this isn't the first time Tarc-Clothing have appeared on this little space of mine, back in August I styled up one of their grizzly tees which you can read all about here.

To keep the witchy theme I pulled out my long lost body con skirt from Misguided skirt and felt da bomb. Like literally the queen of Halloween which always leaves me wondering why I don’t wear it more often. Probably because it's white and I have a habit of spilling things.

Kawaii Pastel hugs

Primark Fluffy Crop

Oh my just look, I have now in my possession a fricking ''it's so fluffy I'm going to die'' kawaii pastel bae. You know what's even better? It's like wearing a mother clucking hug whilst on, which let's be honest we could all do with a hug after the presidential result yesterday SMH. . . .

I have a lot of girl crushes, I talk quite frequently about my girl crushes, but one girl crush, however, I have yet to gush about how much I love them and their style. Hannah Snowden has rad style. I  particularly love her cute bob cut, huge gold eyerings she rocks and of course her fluffy cropped jumpers. I needed to get me one of those and stat. The only thing is I couldn't find one I really liked. I managed to find a black one on eBay that's way too big for me and left me feeling all sad. So obvs I did a little happy dance when James presented this to me after my race on Sunday as a well done. Ta bebz.

Now it's a little unfortunate it's too fricking cold to get ma belleh out, but ima make it work, somehow . . . . hopefully. I thought, for now, high waisted would work best. Now I did wanna try my fluffy crop out with my new silver skirt James got me a few weeks back but it's too darn big and thus not high waisted. To finish off I wore my creepers that have seen better days, hey Santa [James] if you're reading this I'd rly like a new pair for Xmas, I've been a semi-well behaved adult this year functioning at 48% capacity almost.

Skin Savers from the Beauty Kitchen

The Beauty Kitchen

Ok so I don't mean to state the obvious but its friggin' cold out there. I have not been able to warm up all day - COULD be something do with running the Abbey Dash 10K in the wind and the rain this morning, I finally understand the term cold to the bone. I've had a bath, the heatings on full, I've got my onesie on and I'm still fricking cold. Beat my PB doe 58.07 hollaaaa'

So back to the cold weather, it reeks absolute havoc on my skin. I get these horrible dry patches on my cheeks and around my nose and basically it's not one lil bit attractive and all kinds of grim. Luckily for me, the absolute babes at The Beauty Kitchen had sent me out the Abyssinian Hand Bag Beauty Balm and the Abyssinian Facial Moisture cream to try out, it literally couldn't come at a better time.

My absolute favorite out of the pair was the handbag balm. It quickly cleared up the dry patches and as it's a balm it kept my skin from drying out further that day, acting as an almost barrier from the horrid cold. AND I found I could double it up as a primer, You only need the smallest amount to get full coverage.

Next up is the facial moisture cream. I used this as part as my nightly skin care routine. Now the cream is not too heavy which usually leaves me wanting to skip moisturiser out altogether. This left my skin feeling super soft and as mentioned before helped to combat the dreaded dry patches winter brings to my skin. Both smell like a dream, no nasty chemical smells all 100% natural and never ever tested on animals.

Can it get much better than that?

I would totally recommend both products if like me you suffer from dried out skin in the harsh winter months.
